Metal Oxide Varistor/Zinc Oxide Varistor is non-linear resistor utilizing as semiconductor electrocnic ceramic element mainly composed of zinc oxide. It’s called varistor or mental oxide varistor(MOV), just as it is sensitive to voltage’s change. The body of varistor is a matrix structure composed of zinc oxide particles. The grain boundaries between particles are similar to the electrical characteristics of bidirectional PN junctions. When the voltage is low these grain boundaries are in the high impedance state and when the voltage is high they will be in the breakdown state which is a kind of non-linear device.
